This 3-hour introductory course, designed by HERSANA, equips participants with the knowledge and skills to recognise, prevent and respond to Forced Marriage (FM). While often misunderstood as solely a cultural or religious matter, FM is a serious human rights violation and a form of gender-based violence that can have lifelong consequences for those affected.
The session explores the legal definition and frameworks surrounding FM in the UK, the warning signs that someone may be at risk and the safeguarding pathways available to professionals. Participants will learn how to identify risk, respond to disclosures safely and act decisively while ensuring the protection, dignity and agency of the person involved.
Through practical examples and survivor-informed perspectives, this course builds the confidence to intervene appropriately, prioritising safety and survivor-led decision-making.
