This 3-hour introductory course, designed by HERSANA, provides participants with a clear understanding of Honour-Based Abuse (HBA) - a form of gender-based violence rooted in the perceived need to defend or uphold family or community ‘honour’.
While often misunderstood or under-recognised, HBA can take many forms, including forced marriage, assault, threats, coercion, abduction and even homicide.
This training explores the cultural and social dynamics that underpin HBA, while firmly situating it as a violation of human rights and a criminal offence. It equips professionals with the tools to recognise warning signs, assess risk and respond effectively to protect those at risk or affected, without stereotyping or alienating communities.
Through survivor-informed perspectives and sector-relevant case studies, participants will develop the knowledge and confidence to act appropriately, legally and compassionately.
